The century of the electric bicycle

What do you get when you cross a bicycle with a scooter?

Imagine a two-wheeled mode of transport which requires some physical exercise without sweating like a yellow jersey wearer sprinting up a hill. Imagine a mode of transport which means you no longer have to choose between being guiltily passive and exhausting yourself with the effort. This is the reality offered by e-bikes: sportier than a scooter, but less demanding than the classic bicycle, it offers a daily usage which is an answer to the contemporary search for eco-friendly options and well-being.

An idea that has the wind behind it

A question that has been in the air for a while now – since the first patents in 1890 up until the revolutions during the Noughties, bypassing the occasional series models – the e-bike triumphs today at the Paris Cycle Show, thanks to progress made in the field of electrical energy storage (lithium, lead) and in public awareness of ecology and well-being.

Electrical assistance

It is called electrical « assistance » because the motor only starts once the pedals are used. This original concept has generated a new profile of people using two-wheeled transport: people suffering from disabilities, senior executives who like to arrive at work without a hair out of place, those whose urban career options require getting around quickly and often… And because it is only as easy to describe the experience you get with the e-bike as it is to live it and because there are still ways of using it that we haven’t even dreamt of yet, the events planned at the Paris Cycle Show will be the perfect opportunity for the general public to try them out and possibly adopt them into their daily lives.
